Building a relationship with Yah and Commitment to self

Updated: Jun 21, 2023

I preface this with the disclaimer that these tips worked for me, and I understand they may not work for you. Please comment below and spark a conversation with tips that work for you. But on the other hand, if you are interested in learning more about what could work for you and decide to put them into practice, please share that with me too!

Here are my nine tips:

1) Set time limits on apps

I’m not sure if Android phones have this option available, but I imagine they have something similar to what the iPhone has. So if you want to decrease screen time, I recommend setting app time limits. On all of my social media apps, I have a time limit of 5 minutes and 15 minutes each. Don’t get me wrong, there are enough days where I hit extend or ignore, but for the most part, I shut it down when the screen shows I met my time limit. I suggest doing this for any apps you spend a ridiculous amount of screen time on.

2) Do you exercise at home?

To use this tip, you must have a smart TV and smartphone and use a workout app like (Fiton). Try one of these hacks below to motivate you to get the job done.

  • 1) Mirror cast your phone to your tv as soon as you connect to your home WiFi.

  • 2) Set up automation on your phone (Shortcuts app on iPhone) to turn on the app and tv when you arrive home, wake up, etc.

3) I will say this forever. The Bible is a book. Read it from beginning to end; this includes the Old Testament.

4) If you have difficulty reading the Bible, try reading it for the first time in the New Living Translation version (NLT). This version is basic but very clear to read. Also, consider who translated it and know that some books and verses have been removed. Note: I added the “Versus Omitted PDF in the NLT version of the Bible” from TruthUnedited, for your reference at the bottom of this blog.

5) If you’ve never read the Bible from beginning to end, I suggest steering away from the Bible plans to help you read it. I say this because they will likely have you bouncing around in all areas of the Bible, and you’re not getting the necessary history.

6) Dissect your commitments: Pay attention to how you show up for yourself and others. Are you overpromising and under-delivering? Do you have goals that you set for yourself? Are your commitments overwhelming you daily?

7) Honor your word; we all appreciate when others honor their word, right? Do the same for yourself.

8) Deuteronomy 10:16 … Don’t be afraid to change - Self-awareness and living in this World, it’s like being in a giant maze.

Note: The left side is the KJV, and the right side is the NLT version.

As the Israelites were preparing to enter the land of Canaan, Yah said to Moses to tell them, “change your hearts.” He needed His people to know they were held to the Law, Statutes, and Commandments, and if they remained loyal (faith and obedience) to Him, they would continue to receive blessings. When you awaken to the truth of the Bible, you may feel lost, confused, and probably in disbelief. I want you to know it is ok to change your hearts along with repentance. On the journey to self-discovery, you’ll repeatedly run into internal conflict about your foundational morals and values. In certain circumstances, you will face the question at the moment, and at other times you may be reminded that an action or decision was outside of your foundation after you already did it.

9) Foundational values: Now that I explored a bit about the foundation and changing your heart, ask yourself what truly matters to you in all areas of your life. What should your social life look like to maintain your emotional stability and mental health? Do you know what to do for yourself that’s a guaranteed pick me up? Do you believe in Yah? How often do you read the Bible? Do you need certain relationships to stay afloat so that you can stay afloat? Realistically, how much money do you need to be comfortable living your daily life?

You’re walking through the maze and feeling like you’re finding a solid path, and then boom, you’re at a wall. Now you have to decide, will you turn around and figure out a new way or stay at that wall? If you wait, eventually, you choose to change your path. But the key is to keep going, and you know why you keep going? Because

you have faith, you’ll make it out or find the best path. That faith is your foundation.

You will walk for a long time in this giant maze and reach a wall again because that is life. Metaphorically speaking, the wall represents confusion, feeling lost, mentally unstable, etc. Living in this world will deliver you with deception, lies, manipulation, and more, but having faith in the Most High will keep you going and willing to change and grow in your foundation. If you feel like you’re still at “that wall,” it’s because you didn’t change directions. You don’t change because you have fear. You have fear because you lack the foundation.

I strongly suggest reading Matthew 13:1-24. The parable of the Farmer scattering the seed.

Matthew 13:21

Shalom,

Ashlee
